What returned names did and did not establish
Four locally selected PNG fixtures were used where a converter run completed. The table separates names seen on result pages from files or archive entries actually saved and inspected. An unavailable result is not filled from a service description.
| Converter | Observed download unit and name | Source link evidence | Verification limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| ICOConverter.com | Four separate names: favicon (4).ico through favicon (7).ico. | Names were observed in source submission order; the original stems were replaced. | Downloaded copies are present, but output names alone cannot identify the submitted source. The local matcher leaves these unverified. |
| FreeConvert | Four individual result cards retained the source basenames; a “Download All” control was visible. | Result cards showed one name per submitted image. | Browser saving timed out; no saved ICO or archive member was available to inspect. |
| Picflow | The prior review covered ICO conversion to other image formats. | No source-image-to-downloaded-ICO name trace was recorded. | The prior review did not document a local archive-member mapping report. |
| CloudConvert | Four separate ICO files retained the source basenames. | Each saved output filename matched one submitted source stem. | Filename correspondence was checked; this does not prove pixel identity. |
| RedKetchup | No result file was created. | No source was submitted successfully. | The browser file chooser did not open during the recorded attempt. |
| Microsoft Community · Paint mention | No ICO output was captured. | No source was submitted to Paint. | The thread contained conflicting replies; Paint was not launched for this run. |
| ConvertICO | A saved ZIP contained narrow-art.ico, square-art.ico, tiny-art.ico, and fully-transparent.ico. | Each archive member stem matched one submitted source stem. | The archive member names were inspected locally; this does not prove pixel identity. |
| Creative Fabrica Studio | No output was captured. | No source-to-output pair was observed. | The recorded run did not reach file submission. |
| Online-Convert | No output was captured. | No source-to-output pair was observed. | The recorded run did not reach file submission. |
The local matcher addresses the gap between a result label and a saved file list. It does not retest these services or turn a visible success message into a verified download.
Filename trace
Match downloaded names to source images
Choose the source images you submitted and the ICO files or ZIP archives you actually downloaded. This local report pairs an output with a source only when their filename stems match exactly. It keeps each returned name and archive path visible, and marks missing or ambiguous matches as unverified.
Select the original files that were submitted to a converter.
Choose saved downloads. ZIP member names are read in this browser; archive bytes are not sent anywhere.
Choose both source images and downloaded results to begin.
A matching name documents a filename relationship, not pixel identity or proof of which file a service converted. Renamed outputs, duplicate source stems, unsupported archive formats, and missing downloads stay unverified. This report reads file names only; it does not compare image pixels, ICO layers, encoding, or transparency.
How the filename check works
Keep the archive unit in the audit trail
- Record the submitted names. The source list preserves each selected filename as shown by your browser.
- Read the returned unit. A direct ICO is one output row. Each non-folder ZIP entry is a separate row labeled with its archive filename and member path.
- Apply one explicit match rule. The tool lowercases each final filename stem and compares the complete stems. It does not strip suffixes, reorder files, or infer a match from the order of submission.
- Leave uncertain rows open. No exact source stem, more than one matching source, or a non-ICO archive member produces an unverified result with a reason.
This is a filename and package-consistency check. A matching stem cannot prove the image content is unchanged; a renamed file cannot be attributed from its name alone.
FAQ
ICO converter questions
How do I convert an image to ICO?
Choose one supported image, select the ICO size layers you need, and download one ICO file. Conversion runs in this browser.
Will the filename report upload my files?
No. Source names and downloaded file names are read in this browser. The report does not send file data to a server.
Why can a returned file be unverified?
A renamed output has no exact filename-stem match. Duplicate source names are ambiguous, and missing downloads cannot be checked. The report does not guess from submission order.
Does a filename match prove the output image is the same?
No. It records matching names only. This report does not open image pixels or decode ICO image entries.
